How to Keep Your Skin Extra Moisturized? Try Slugging – a hydration boosting trend made popular by TikTok.
What is Slugging?
Slugging is applying a thin coat of petrolatum on skin to help seal the moisture and prevent water loss from skin. The petrolatum acts as an additional skin barrier.
How to incorporate slugging into daily routine?
You can apply petrolatum over your favorite moisturizer to seal everything in or directly onto skin, ideally at nighttime, 2-3 times a week. Because of petrolatum greasy nature (feel and look) – you may opt out of using this technique during daytime. Slugging should be the last step in your skincare routine. Think of it as an overnight mask that will be washed off with a cleanser the next day.
Is slugging safe?
Petrolatum is safe and hypoallergenic and should not cause any adverse reaction nor clog pores. Coat your skin with a thin layer of petrolatum; this is not a product that should be caked on skin.
Slugging is ideal for dry skin types. It is not a substitute for the moisturizer step in your skincare routine so be sure not to skip this essential step. Treat slugging as an ADD ON.
